THE MALEVOLENT MOUSTACHIERS

November 21st, 2011   By   Filed Under: Everyone, Interesting, Weird and Wonderful

Boys and Girls, we are in the thick of Movember, quite literally! After last years huge success we were chomping at the bit to donate our top lips for a ridiculous look…all in the name of chari-dee! But what a worthwhile cause it is. Prostate Cancer affects thousands of men in the UK and the awareness generated by Movember is growing each year. You might have seen the likes of Gary Linekar and the MOTD boys sporting some rather dodgy facial hair but, rather than simply let our taches raise awareness, the boys at Dylan decided to go the extra yard and, through a partnership with the Wilkinson Sword Men UK facebook page, we decided to showcase characters inspired by said top lip ticklers. What you’re about to see is an homage to Pilots, Cowboys & Mexican wrestlers, amongst other creations. You can keep up to date on the Dylan Mo-Team’s progress on their Movember page and even make a donation to the team for this fan-tache-tic cause!

The Wilderness Downtown

Ok, so I know I’m a little slow off the mark with this one but, having recently taken part on a day’s coding course, I have a new-found respect for the art of the website. And it couldn’t be more arty than with this little stunner – http://www.thewildernessdowntown.com/ – an enchantingly beautiful fusion of Arcade Fire’s “We Used to Wait” and Google Chrome’s diverse capabilities. The Agency Promotional Video

November 15th, 2011   By   Filed Under: Candidates, Employers

In the past I highlighted a ‘recruitment video’ created by the grads from the Engine GroupBig Pimpin’. It is hilarious and is featured again below.

Many agencies have put their hand to creating promotional videos, some of which were not necessarily originally created for an external audience but have made their way in to the public arena. Many have created a lot of chatter and gained extensive coverage especially through social media and in the online press, just search for Sapient on twitter now and you’ll see what I mean. OK, so not all of this coverage is positive but as a recruitment consultant coming from a talent attraction perspective, I know that it is the work that our client’s (the agencies) do for their clients that is far more important in attracting talent than a promotional video. The same can be said of acquiring new clients. Read more…

Go Beyond The Cover

November 14th, 2011   By   Filed Under: Digital, Everyone, Interesting, Weird and Wonderful

For my latest post, I wanted to share a piece of work that is completely and utterly brilliant. Produced by an agency in Montreal called Tuxedo for Dermablend Professional, the advert is entitled ‘How do you judge a book’ and features Rico Genest who you would probably know as Zombie Boy from Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ video.

Why do I think this is amazing? Well, you just can’t help but watch it. Several times over. It is such a simple concept with a rather beautiful underlying message and it is brilliantly shot. And what better way to demonstrate just how good the product is?! Rico is unrecognisable as ‘Zombie boy’ at the start of the video and there is a massive shock when the makeup starts to come away.

I’m not the only person that is completely intrigued and amazed by this advert; the original video was launched on Youtube on October 11th and within 24 hours had received 500,000 hits. One month later this figure is sitting at over 4 million and still increasing.

If you haven’t already seen it, enjoy. If you have, watch again. You’ll be as amazed as you were the first time.

Dylan Scoop ‘Best Small Recruitment Agency’ Award at #thenoras

November 3rd, 2011   By   Filed Under: Candidates, Employers, Everyone

We’re super chuffed to announce that we were named Best Small Recruitment Agency at last night’s National Online Recruitment Awards.

Now in its eleventh year the NORA awards celebrate the world of online recruitment and took place last night at Sway in Covent Garden. We were delighted that the hard work and planning that has gone in to making this site seems to be paying off. Rather than trying to communicate micro-messages to individual audiences, we try to communicate to everyone in the same tone, it doesn’t matter if you’re a potential candidate or client because the personality, values and passion of the company is what matters and we hope that shines through. We’d love your thought so please make any comments about what you think

The Emotional Hedge

November 2nd, 2011   By   Filed Under: Everyone

Some time has passed since the Rugby World Cup passed and I have been reminiscing about it now that football has taken over our TV screens. The long and the short of it is that this world cup wasn’t as exciting as it has been in the past for me. This could be due to the fact games were screened at 8.30am (no beer) or the fact that the tournament as a whole lacked any flair. England were shocking, France were France, Wales should have done better, New Zealand won (just) and the under dogs (Italy, USA and co) did what they always do: made lots of tackles, let in tries and put in some massive hits. So I decided to make it interesting!

Now as a proud Englishman who once got “filled in” on the pitch playing a Southern French team, I am very happy to see the French lose. BUT, I got France in the sweep stake at work. So I also decided to stick £10 on France (at 11-1) when they lost to Tonga, to win the tournament and bet my Father £20 (2-1) that France would beat New Zealand (an hour before kick-off).

So going into the final I could have won c£220, and I could have made an average tournament interesting by playing the “Emotional Hedge”. If France lost I would be happy, but if France won, I would also be happy.

Now… we know the result of course, New Zealand won and France lost. I may be £32 down but I don’t have to congratulate my sisters French boyfriend on a World Cup win!

So to summarise my ramblings, The Emotional Hedge is the best way to make sport interesting. It doesn’t matter how dull a game is, if you put a few pennies behind the enemy, you create a little bit of drama and emotion within you!

What An Idea, Teacher!

Richa Arora, Experiential and Events Junior Consultant, talks about the power of education by making it fun, immersive, creative and interesting!

Winter, 2010 – As my internship at Dylan was drawing to a close, I decided to earn a few extra pre-Christmas pounds by teaching students who took GCSE and A-levels in Science and Mathematics during after work hours (I am geeky, yes!) . I loved it, purely because it is a very fulfilling profession. The thought of imparting knowledge is very satisfying and, most of the time, it’s not one-way. I learnt so much myself while in the process of teaching these really bright kids. Read more…

Get Them Talking

October 27th, 2011   By   Filed Under: Digital, Employers, Everyone

I had the pleasure of attending the Yammer On Tour conference with the Co-Founder of Dylan Julian yesterday. We’ve been using Yammer for a few months in the office and have become complete evangelists of the product.

So what exactly is Yammer I hear you cry? Well put simply their pitch is…

It’s a great tool for getting your employees and colleagues off email and offering them a far more fluid way to communicate, share ideas, update teams on projects and facilitate group discussions without a mile long email trail.

Now I’m not here to pitch Yammer necessarily (although it is excellent) but address the importance for companies to start communicating in a different way and embrace the social revolution that is going on all around us.

As I mentioned, we’ve been using Yammer here at Dylan for a while now and have found it’s an excellent way to speed up the conversations that happen within the office. All sorts of things get shared through Yammer and with it being set up on social media principles i.e. with a main feed and then private messaging, you can keep up with what’s going on in the company without actually having to engage in conversation.

Now Dylan is a small business (with big ambitions) and many larger businesses will look upon a tool like this with fear and trepidation over the loss of control. The reality is many (if not all) of your employees are on social applications such as Facebook and Twitter everyday, so why would you want to miss out on this shared knowledge by ignoring this fact?

The social revolution is here and the benefits of embracing this will only be realised once you take the leap to integrate it into how your organisation communicates.

…And if you’re still not convinced you can read the Forrester Report which looks at the total economic impact of using an Enterprise Social Network. In terms of ROI the results speak for themselves http://dyln.it/kj7

Part Time Rock Star

October 26th, 2011   By   Filed Under: Interesting, Weird and Wonderful

If you have visited the Meet The Team pages of our website and the consultants’ own profile pages, you’ll have seen that we like to show you a bit more about us as individuals with personalities than the average website. So, whilst a little embarrassed, if you are watching the video (I’m on the left) then this is me living our values and sharing with you, whether you like it or not, a bit more about me outside of the office. It also explains why I am only a Part Time Rockstar…and that is being generous!

“Why are you embarrassed?” I cannot hear you cry. Well, it’s not Wembley Stadium (it’s my Uncle’s warehouse) and it is not vintage guitar skills (it’s average “make lots of noise to cover up for a lack of” skills). It’s a short video of a practice session for playing at my sister’s wedding earlier this year and, yes, I Bet you Look Good On The Dance Floor is a very suitable song for a wedding reception. I should point out that this wasn’t their first dance, they sensibly kept that to a pre-recorded love song! The other two wannabe rock stars are my brother (guitar, right) and uncle (vocals).
